About Maja Tait

Maja Tait is dedicated to improving the lives of the people in Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke. As the current Mayor of Sooke, a position she has held since 2014, and with two terms of service as a Councillor, Maja has been a strong advocate for affordable housing, environmental protection, and increasing access to amenities for both children and seniors—all while maintaining a focus on responsible taxpayer spending.

Maja has spent the past decade serving on several important regional committees, including the Capital Regional District Board, the Victoria Regional Transit Commission, and the South Island Reconciliation Advisory Committee.

With a proven ability to build cross-party relationships, Maja has gained the trust of local government leaders throughout BC and across Canada. In 2019, she was elected President of the Union of BC Municipalities and later served as a committee member with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

With her wealth of experience, proven advocacy, connections and influence, Maja is strongly positioned to take her dedication to the federal level and bring the voices of Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke to Ottawa.

Raised in Bragg Creek, Alberta, and having lived in Calgary and Japan before settling on Vancouver Island in 1997, Maja moved to Sooke in 2006 with her husband, Alexander. While serving as Mayor, they welcomed their son, Ewan, in 2015. In her free time, Maja enjoys gardening, exploring the wild areas around her community, and experimenting with new recipes for her family and friends.
